Statement About Critical New Tariffs Imposed By The Trump Administration

April 4th, 2025


The Trump administration has announced major changes to the U.S. tariff landscape. The new tariffs are in addition to previously imposed tariffs. Here is what was recently announced:

  • Reciprocal Tariffs: The Trump Administration has assessed a minimum 10% tariff on every country in the world.  The United States will start assessing these tariffs on April 5, 2025.  Additionally, the Trump Administration has also assessed higher matching tariffs on individual countries that will include the minimum 10% tariff. The United States will start assessing these matching tariffs on April 9, 2025. Specifics about the matching tariffs, the countries they affect, and the cargo that is exempt from these tariffs – including goods subject to Section 232 tariffs – can be found here.   • Automotive Tariffs: As of April 3, 2025, a 25% tariff has been assessed on all foreign-made automobiles. Also, beginning on May 3, 2025, a 25% tariff is expected to be assessed on all automobile parts. For a comprehensive list of HTS codes that will be subject to these tariffs, click here.

  • Venezuelan Oil Tariffs: An executive order has been issued to impose a 25% tariff on any country that purchases oil from Venezuela. The Trump Administration has given the Secretary of State the power to enact these tariffs when he feels appropriate. Some of the countries that purchase oil from Venezuela include, Brazil, China, Cuba, India, Italy, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Turkey, and Vietnam.​
